Wow, it's been 7 weeks already and we are now only days away from opening the show!! Things are really heating up here at Sure Foot HQ and we are so excited to bring this show to you.
Firstly, thank you SO much to everyone who so generously contributed to our Kickstarter campaign! We could not have made this show happen without you. You really are an integral part of our team!
We have now come to the end of our workshop-rehearsal period (eep!) and as of Monday, we will be working in the theatre itself. We have 2 dress rehearsals, a Preview and that's it... then we're on! We owe a MASSIVE thank you to our Official Rehearsal Space Sponsor, The Bank Hotel. The Bank is located just 10 minutes' walk away from the theatre (a couple of doors up from Newtown Station) and have the friendliest staff in Newtown. They also have excellent food, and we're in the midst of organising some yummy pre- and post-show deals for you all! Do be sure to head to the Bank to continue your discourses about the show when the theatre bar closes. http://www.bankhotel.com.au/ (WE'LL MISS YOU GUYS!!)
There's also a very large thank you to be given to two other venues for helping us out with some rehearsal space. Miss Peaches (https://www.misspeaches.com.au/) and Cobbstar Studios (https://cobbstarproductions.com/studios/). Thank you for having us!
We've had a few brushes with the media lately, chatting about the show and trying to spread the word as we get closer to opening. If you'd like to catch up on what we've been saying about the show, we've thrown some links below:
On 21st June, Producer/Cast Member Kitty Hopwood had a wonderful conversation with David Prior and Janette Lakiss on 2UE's Lifestyle Overnight. You can have a listen on David's podcast Prior To Dawn here.
Associate Producer Annette Freeman was called on for an interview with City Hub, and we're trying to get our hands on that for you to have a squiz.
Our Director/Producer Richard Cornally chatted with Eastside Radio's Gaz and Diana on Arts Tuesday on 4th July. Have a listen here. (Richard starts at about the 54:12 mark).
Kitty had a bit of a chin-wag with Rodrick Chambers on 2SER's Stages on 5th July, you can hear that one here.
And just yesterday our cast member Peter-William Jamieson, who plays Dennis, has a natter with Penny Pederson on Northside Radio's The Long Way Home. We're trying to get our hands on a recording of it so you can hear his dulcet tones.
We love doing interviews and getting out there in the media, but as we are independent theatre makers, it's always good to remember the best way for us to get the word out there is YOU! Please help us by telling all your friends and colleagues about the show (especially if you enjoy it!)
Our Set Designer Rhys William Nicolson of The Orchard Productions (and his pug Yoda) has been hard at work gathering all our furniture and putting it together to make sure it all fits. Rhys is the founder of The Orchard Productions and Set Design, a location-for-hire situated on an 1897 stone-fruit orchard which is focused on delivering palpable and atmospheric environments for the stories it helps to tell. Check them out at http://www.the-orchard.co/
Rhys kindly sent us these photos to give us a sneak-peak... Can you see our set in there??
Thanks again to our friends at Philas (Philatelic Association of NSW) for all their help and research throughout the process of staging this play. You'll see some information about them, and a wonderful display about postal history and the stamps referenced in the play, in the foyer when you come to see the show. All the best to them today, for their Stamp Action! http://philas.org.au/
On the home front, we are now the owners of a surprisingly extensive collection of photos of sleeping actors. We like to work 'em hard here at Sure Foot. We've included a few below so you can have a giggle.
We also had fun with Scott Witt of Combat Circus a couple of weeks ago, who came in to help us choreograph our fight scenes. Scott is an absolute wonder and we highly recommend him if you are thinking of learning stage combat. You can check out his classes and teaching philosophy at http://www.combatcircus.com/home
And, as promised, a special offer for all our wonderful supporters!! Simply enter the code NTENEWS when booking for a discounted ticket rate of $32. Hit the button below!
That's it from us for now... tomorrow we bump in to the theatre and start building our set...!
Lots of Love,
Sure Foot Productions
